Sta. Rosa del Sur, Pasacao, Camarines Sur — March 6, 2026.
Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI), through its Roots to Shoots Program and with the support of Metrobank Foundation, Inc., marked another milestone in community empowerment with the official opening of the stitching and sewing production facility of the Solong Nanay at Tatay Association (SONATA) in Barangay Sta. Rosa del Sur, Pasacao.
The newly opened facility aims to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for 47 SONATA members, many of whom are mothers striving to provide better futures for their families. More than just a workspace, the facility represents a safe and empowering space where community members can build skills, earn sustainable income, and strengthen their economic resilience.
The activity began with a blessing led by Rev. Marcos Quesada, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by SONATA members, PSFI representatives, local leaders, and partner stakeholders. The opening symbolized not only the start of operations, but also a shared commitment to inclusive and community-driven development.
As part of its initial operations, SONATA will produce eco bags, grow bags, and Go Bags, responding to the increasing demand for practical and environmentally conscious products. The association will also offer sewing and stitching services to diversify its sources of income and expand opportunities for members.
Prior to the launch, PSFI ensured that members were equipped with the necessary technical skills to manage and operate the enterprise. Through the Roots to Shoots Program and in partnership with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, 10 SONATA members completed basic stitching training, gaining foundational competencies in sewing and production.
For many SONATA members, the initiative is life-changing.
“This is a big help for mothers like us who want to support our families,” shared one member during the activity. “It gives us hope and an opportunity to earn while learning new skills.”
The Barangay Local Government Unit also expressed strong support for the initiative. Hon. Dennis Gerona emphasized that the project reflects the power of collaboration and shared responsibility in creating sustainable opportunities for communities.
PSFI’s support goes beyond the opening of the facility. Under the enterprise development plan, SONATA members will continue to receive skills enhancement training, mentorship, and assistance in connecting with potential clients and markets. These efforts aim to strengthen the association’s operations and help transform it into a resilient and sustainable community enterprise.
