Shell–PhilDev Partnership Celebrated at PhilDev Gala: Advancing a Legacy of Filipino Excellence

Against the backdrop of the PhilDev Gala Fundraiser’s theme, “A Night of Purpose and Impact: Celebrating the Legacy of Filipino Excellence,” Shell Companies in the Philippines and Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) joined fellow leaders from industry, academe, and the startup ecosystem in honoring the vision and enduring legacy of PhilDev founder Dado Banatao. The evening featured the launch of a commemorative book on Banatao’s life and contributions, while recognizing individuals and organizations whose work continues to advance innovation, education, and nation-building.

Held on May 23, 2026 at the EDSA Shangri-La Manila, the PhilDev Annual Gala Fundraiser celebrated Filipino excellence through the launch of A Tale of Two Valleys by Jamil Maidan Flores, which chronicles Dado Banatao’s inspiring journey from his humble beginnings in the Cagayan Valley to his remarkable achievements in Silicon Valley. More than a tribute to a visionary entrepreneur and philanthropist, the gala highlighted the transformative power of education, innovation, and entrepreneurship in shaping the nation’s future.

Representing the Shell–PhilDev partnership at the gala were Sebastian C. Quiniones, Jr., Executive Director of PSFI; Monaleizl Dy, Project Officer of PSFI; Conrad Parizal, Country Social Performance and Social Investment Manager of Shell Pilipinas Corporation; Beverly Berberabe, Social Performance Adviser for Downstream Philippines; and Jem Bacuno, Recruiter for Shell Business Operations Manila.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of Shell Pilipinas Corporation as a Corporate Honoree for its long-standing partnership with PhilDev and its support of more than 200 scholars through the Shell–PhilDev Scholarship Program. Through this collaboration, Shell, PSFI, and PhilDev have worked together to provide promising Filipino students with access to quality education, leadership development opportunities, and pathways to careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Shell Pilipinas Corporation was recognized alongside fellow corporate and startup honorees Packworks, Maya Bank, Globe Telecom, and PLDT Inc. In recognition of his significant contributions to national development and leadership, Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala received the evening’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The impact of the Shell–PhilDev partnership was further reflected in the achievements of three alumni scholars who were recognized among the Young Innovators of the Year. Jana Marie Quismundo was honored for her work as a neuroscientist and biologist engaged in international biomedical research. Leo Villalba was recognized for founding mHycro, a venture developing micro-pumped hydro energy storage solutions for remote communities. Ivan Nara was celebrated for his work as founder and CEO of KoolGear, which develops climate-responsive cooling technologies.

Joining them in the Young Innovators of the Year roster were Dr. Victor Erwin Jocson, an interventional neuroradiologist recognized for performing a landmark mechanical thrombectomy on a 105-year-old ischemic stroke patient, and Dr. Noel Peter Tan, a chemical engineer and DOST Balik Scientist leading research in biodegradable packaging, membrane technologies, and nanoscience applications.

Adding inspiration to the evening, Shell–PhilDev alumnus Jon Paulo Siglos shared his personal scholarship journey and reflected on how educational opportunities can help transform lives and communities. Guests were also treated to musical performances by Shell–PhilDev scholars Urel Bermudo and Kenshim Tan, who showcased their talents through classical piano and guitar renditions.

The evening served as a powerful reminder of the vision that continues to guide PhilDev and its partners. Inspired by the life and legacy of Dado Banatao, the gala underscored a shared commitment to empowering Filipino talent through education, innovation, and entrepreneurship. For Shell, PSFI, and PhilDev, the recognition received during the event is not only a celebration of a long-standing partnership, but also an affirmation of the collective impact that can be achieved when organizations work together to invest in the next generation of Filipino leaders, innovators, and changemakers.
