Tools for Tomorrow: SKIL Scholars Receive EIM Toolkits in Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — On July 15, 2025, ten scholars from the Sanayan sa Kakayahang Industriyal (SKIL) Program received their Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) toolkits during a ceremonial turnover held at the Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC) – Molo Campus.

The event, made possible through the collaboration of Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) and City Government of Iloilo thru PESO Iloilo City and the Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC), was more than just a formal handover—it was a heartfelt gesture of support for young Filipinos striving to build better futures. By providing essential tools for training, the partners reaffirmed their shared commitment to helping aspiring electricians gain the skills and confidence they need to thrive in the workforce.

Also present at the ceremony was Mr. Darby Angeles, Shell Iloilo Terminal Manager, who stood proudly alongside the scholars as they received their toolkits. For him, it wasn’t just about handing over equipment—it was about showing up for the dreams of young Filipinos. His presence reflected the heart behind the initiative: that success is not only built on skills, but on the support of those who believe in you. In moments like these, when futures are being shaped one tool at a time, Darby and the rest of the community are reminded that investing in people is what truly powers progress.

The turnover aims to provide scholars with the necessary tools and equipment to support their practical training requirements in the EIM NC II course. This initiative is aligned with the national goal of enhancing technical-vocational education and training (TVET) to improve workforce readiness and employability.

With the support of Shell Pilipinas Corporation (SPC), each scholar received a complete set of tools to aid their practical training. The toolkit included a Tool Holster, Electrician Knife, Electrician Pliers, Long Nose Pliers, and Diagonal Side Cutting Pliers. It also featured a Steel Tape, Analog Multi Meter, Level, and Heat Gun. To further prepare them for hands-on tasks, the set came with a Screwdriver Set, Cordless Drill, and Screw Bit.

By providing these toolkits, the program ensures that scholars can meet practical training requirements and build the competencies needed for certification and future employment. The initiative also aligns with national efforts to strengthen technical-vocational education and promote inclusive economic growth.

Representatives from PSFI, PESO, and TIIC emphasized the value of public-private partnerships in bridging education and industry. This collaboration under a formal Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between PSFI and the City Government of Iloilo through its City PESO and TIIC showcases how synergy between local government and development partners can open up real opportunities for the Filipino youth.

Upon completing the program, scholars will undergo TESDA assessment and may benefit from job placement assistance through PESO and PSFI’s employment facilitation services—bringing them one step closer to meaningful careers in the technical field.
