Shell Pilipinas Corporation and PSFI Join Calapan City in Kick-Off of Fire Prevention Month

Calapan City, March 1, 2026 — Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI), together with Shell Pilipinas Corporation (SPC), joined the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Calapan and partner agencies in officially launching Fire Prevention Month, reinforcing a shared commitment to community safety and emergency preparedness.

While the program proper was led by BFP Calapan, the presence of Shell representatives, including Terminal Manager Leandro Jr. Garcia, TOA Nayla Fernandez, and the Shell Calapan Emergency and Disaster Control (EDC) team, highlighted the strong and continuing partnership between Shell and local emergency responders.

The kick-off gathered around 114 participants from national government agencies, local authorities, and private sector partners. Among the guests of honor was Mr. Eufracio N. Forones Jr., City Local Government Operations Officer of DILG Calapan City. Also present were representatives from the Philippine National Police, Philippine Ports Authority, Provincial and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices, Philippine Coast Guard, and other partner institutions.

Strengthening Preparedness Through Action

Building on this collaboration, SPC and PSFI will continue supporting BFP-led activities throughout March. One of the key events is the Fire Olympics on March 21, 2026, where government and private sector teams will demonstrate their emergency response capabilities through simulated fire scenarios.

The Shell Calapan EDC team will take part in the activity, showcasing coordination, discipline, and readiness in responding to emergencies. To support participants and frontline responders, PSFI and SPC will also provide refreshments, contributing to the overall welfare of those involved.

Sustaining a Strong Partnership with BFP

The Bureau of Fire Protection remains a key partner of Shell in advancing safety and preparedness initiatives. From 2022 to 2025, joint efforts have focused on strengthening response systems and promoting a culture of safety within communities.

In Calapan, this partnership continues through regular stakeholder alignment activities, where Shell personnel, the EDC team, community members, and BFP conduct joint drills. These simulations help clarify roles, improve coordination, and ensure faster, more effective responses during actual emergencies.

Advancing Safety and Environmental Stewardship

Beyond emergency preparedness, the collaboration also supports broader community resilience efforts. Through PSFI, Shell continues to work with BFP in environmental initiatives such as coastal clean-ups and mangrove planting, recognizing the link between environmental protection and disaster risk reduction.

The initiative empowers families to improve their diets while building resilience at the household level.

Chasing Zero: How PSFI and Partners are Turning the Tide Against Malaria

As the Philippines moves closer to eliminating malaria, a focused push in Palawan is driving the country’s final mile toward zero cases. Through the Global Fund Movement Against Malaria program, implemented by Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) with national and local partners, significant gains have been achieved, including a 78% drop in indigenous cases in 2025 and zero reported deaths.

With 74 out of 82 provinces now malaria free, efforts are concentrated on reaching remote and underserved communities through targeted testing, treatment, and prevention strategies. Backed by strong partnerships and community driven approaches, the country is on track to achieve zero malaria in Palawan by 2026 and nationwide elimination by 2030.

BiyaHERO: PSFI Strengthens Road Safety Awareness Among Young Learners in Cagayan de Oro

PSFI, together with Shell Pilipinas Corporation and the Roads and Traffic Administration, strengthened road safety awareness among young learners in Cagayan de Oro through its BiyaHERO program. Through hands-on simulations and real-world learning tools, 64 students and teachers gained practical skills to navigate roads safely, reinforcing the importance of early education in building safer communities.
